Come learn, connect, and deepen your roots in the language of our kūpuna. Papa 'Ōlelo is a weekly Hawaiian language class open to anyone who wants a real relationship with 'ōlelo Hawai'i, whether this is the first time you've ever heard it spoken or you grew up around it and never got the chance to learn.
🗣️ WHY COME?
You don't need any background in the language to walk in the door. Mailani teaches in a way that works whether you've never heard a word of 'ōlelo before or you grew up hearing it around the house and just never learned it yourself. Either way, you'll leave knowing more than you walked in with.
This class is for:
- Complete beginners: No prior 'ōlelo needed, just curiosity
- Keiki and families: Learning the language together, side by side
- Anyone reconnecting with their roots: Especially if you never had the chance to learn growing up
- Locals and transplants: Anyone who wants to understand the language behind the culture
- Regulars: Folks who just want a reason to come back every Sunday
🌺 WHAT TO EXPECT
- Class runs the full hour, every Sunday from 4:30 to 5:30 PM
- Drop in any week you can make it, no need to have come the week before
- Small group setting, taught directly by Mailani Maka'ina'i
- You'll learn words and phrases you can actually use, not just a vocabulary list
- No dress code, no pressure, just show up and join us
